About plankton & intestines
At plnktn, we've been fascinated by the gut microbiome for years. This is because our products (if we're to believe the reviews) contribute to the gut health of many people in the Netherlands. That's why we're committed to providing valuable information that can potentially further improve gut health in the Netherlands.
The e-book "Balance from Within" offers insights into the relationship between your gut microbiome and your health. Inspired by Marjolein van Randwijk, a dietitian specializing in IBS, passionate about the microbiome, and founder of Mighty Gut Dietitian Practice.

Three reasons why we want to draw attention to gut health:
1. Preventing digestive problems
In 2019, approximately 3.8 million people (almost a quarter of the Dutch population) received specialist medical care for stomach, intestinal or liver disorders.
2. Creating awareness
Few people realize that the health of our intestines is an indispensable foundation for our overall health
3. Breaking the taboo
Two million Dutch people experience feelings of shame, fear, or helplessness every day due to digestive problems. We all go to the bathroom, don't we? This taboo is over.
Let's discover together how you can strengthen your health, from within.

What is the microbiome?
Did you know that a whole jungle of microorganisms lives on and in you? Without you even realizing it, billions of microorganisms like bacteria, fungi, and viruses live on and in your body. They're found on your skin, in your mouth, in your vagina, and especially in your intestines. Together, they form your microbiome. So you don't have just one microbiome, but several. The largest microbiome is located in your large intestine, and is primarily inhabited by gut bacteria.

How does plankton contribute to a healthy gut microbiome?
We're learning that the microbiome consists of a jungle of bacteria, both good and bad. To ensure everything functions properly, it's important to nourish the bacteria in your gut microbiome. This can be achieved through a varied and balanced diet. Due to the enormous diversity of nutrients in algae, we see that many people benefit from our products when it comes to their gut health.
