Green news! plnktn joins forces with packaging-free supermarket Pieter Pot! For the first time in the Netherlands, consumers can now buy and use supplements without packaging waste. Packaging-free online supermarket Pieter Pot offers plnktn's algae supplements online in reusable deposit jars.
At plnktn, we continuously search for innovations to offer consumers the best choice in terms of both health and nutrition, as well as sustainability. A collaboration with Pieter Pot, the packaging-free, online supermarket, therefore seemed like a perfect match to us.

Online supermarket Pieter Pot, known for its mission to make packaging-free shopping accessible, fortunately did not hesitate for a moment. How does it work? After production at the algae farm, plnktn's natural algae supplements are now immediately filled into reusable glass jars. These special jars are black and ultraviolet, ensuring that the quality of the natural supplements remains optimal. Consumers can now order these jars of supplements online through the Pieter Pot app. The jars can be returned with the next order, after which they are washed and refilled. The plnktn assortment on pieter-pot.nl consists of plankton capsules, Omega-3, Magnesium, and Vitamin D3.
Is the ideal packaging no packaging?
Gijs Dröge, co-founder plnktn: "We believe in the power of algae for health and well-being, but in a way that prioritizes the impact on the planet. For example, we don't harvest our algae from the ocean; instead, we cultivate them in a local algae farm. In terms of packaging, every material has its pros and cons, which we continuously evaluate for our products.
For instance, cardboard is relatively environmentally friendly but weak. Plastic offers good protection, but its source is fossil and non-renewable. Compostable materials have favorable processing, but who puts them in the right bin? Algae might be the ultimate sustainable material, but the possibilities are still limited. In all honesty, we can't tell you what the ideal packaging is. So, isn't the best packaging... no packaging?
