Chlorella

One ingredient,
exceptionally nutritious

Plnktn chlorella consists of one ingredient: 100% dried chlorella, grown in
closed fermentation tanks in Oldenzaal (the Netherlands).

Chlorella is a microalga with high nutritional density. A compact source of protein, (cellulose) fiber, chlorophyll, and active vitamin B12. Four capsules per day
provide ~2 grams of chlorella, with 23 mg of chlorophyll and 1.7 μg of vitamin B12 (68% of
the recommended daily intake).

- Contains chlorophyll, the natural green pigment of the algae
- Plant-based, 45% protein, 20% fiber
- Grown in closed fermentation tanks, purity checked per batch

Produced in the Netherlands

More than 80% of the current algae supplements on the market come from Asia. Often from open ponds, with vague supply chains and uncontrollable quality.

We deliberately choose not to use cheap bulk algae from Asia, but rather high-quality, locally grown algae directly from the Netherlands.

Why would I need Chlorella?

Chlorella is a green algae rich in vitamins, minerals, and chlorophyll. It is known for its broad nutritional profile and natural support for the body.

It is not a miracle cure, but a supplement to your daily diet. It is a compact source of nutrients such as B vitamins including B12, vitamin K1, chlorophyll, and fiber. We believe that algae are a valuable addition to everyone's diet. It is a category that is still rarely seen in daily diets, even though it is an interesting, plant-based, and sustainable source of nutrients.

What makes your Chlorella unique?

More than 80% of the current algae supplements on the market come from Asia. Often grown in open ponds, with vague supply chains and uncontrollable quality.

We deliberately choose not to use cheap bulk algae from Asia, but rather high-quality, locally grown algae directly from the Netherlands. For example, from the Prinsenbroeders: two brothers who converted an old tulip greenhouse into an algae farm.

Is Chlorella allergen-free?

Chlorella is free from most common allergens but does contain sulfites, a substance that can cause a hypersensitivity reaction in some people.

Is Chlorella suitable for children and/or during pregnancy/breastfeeding?

Chlorella is safe for children.

For pregnant and breastfeeding women, we recommend consulting your doctor first, as there is insufficient research on the use of algae during these periods.

What are the ingredients of your Chlorella?

Chlorella sorokiniana (Chlorella)

Do I need Chlorella in addition to Plankton?

Our Plankton product also contains chlorella, but combined with three other algae. As a result, the proportion of chlorella is lower than in our pure Chlorella product.

Do you primarily want a broad base of different algae? Then Plankton is a good choice. If you want to specifically add extra chlorella, for example, for its fiber, chlorophyll, vitamin B12, and K1, then you can easily use Chlorella in addition.

There is no official EFSA upper limit set for the daily intake of chlorella. Therefore, we looked at the relevant nutrients, such as iron, manganese, and vitamin D. When used according to the recommended dosage, these remain well within safe margins.

In short: you can combine Plankton and Chlorella well. Plankton is your broad algae base, Chlorella is a targeted supplement.

Should I choose Spirulina or Chlorella?

Chlorella and Spirulina are similar in that they are both natural microalgae, cultivated in the Netherlands, with an unprecedented nutritional density. However, there are also significant differences:

Chlorella is an algae with a firm cell wall. This means chlorella naturally contains a relatively high amount of fiber. Additionally, chlorella contains a lot of chlorophyll (the green pigment from which the algae gets its color), vitamin B12, and vitamin K1.

Spirulina is officially a cyanobacterium and has a softer cell structure. It is a nutritious daily supplement, partly due to its high protein content and substances such as phycocyanin (researched for its antioxidative potential), beta-carotene, and, like Chlorella, chlorophyll and vitamin K1. Spirulina is often associated with energy, sports, and recovery.

Both products originate from the Netherlands, and we deliberately keep their formulation pure: Chlorella contains 100% Chlorella sorokiniana and Spirulina 100% Arthrospira platensis. Both are in a plant-based HPMC capsule and have the same dosage: 4 capsules per day.

In summary: chlorella contains relatively more fiber, spirulina relatively more protein. Both contain chlorophyll and K1. Spirulina also contains phycocyanin, an interesting bioactive substance that is widely researched for its potential role as an antioxidant, and Chlorella contains vitamin B12.

How quickly will I notice the effects of taking Chlorella?

Chlorella is not a product where you should expect to feel an immediate noticeable effect. It naturally contains various nutrients (such as proteins, chlorophyll, and several micronutrients) that primarily contribute to your daily nutritional intake, and less to an acute "feeling."

Research shows: When supplementing with chlorella, effects are usually only measured after a few weeks. Many studies look at biomarkers (such as antioxidant status or blood values), not directly noticeable effects. There is still relatively little consistent human evidence for rapid, noticeable changes.

In short: See chlorella primarily as a supplement to your daily diet. If you notice an effect, it usually happens gradually over several weeks :)
