Several studies have shown that Omega-3 fatty acids support brain development, functioning and can have a positive effect for depression. Studies showed that diets rich in Omega-3 fatty acids improved moods of people with a major depression or bipolar disorder (39) (40) (41) (42) (43).

According to various studies, fatty acids are of particular importance for brain functioning as it maintains an optimal state of neuronal membranes, enabling membrane fluidity and thickness, which in turn affects cell signaling (44) (45).

Diets rich in Omega-3 fatty acids have shown beneficial effects on learning and memory of children (46).
